Santo Santoro

Santo Santoro is well known through his involvement and participation at the highest level of Queensland and Australian politics over a period of 30 years.

Santo is one of a handful of Australians who have served in both a State Parliament and the Federal Parliament and as a Minister in both.

In fact, Santo Santoro is one of the few Australians to have served as a representative in both National and State Parliaments and in both State and National Ministries.

While a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly between 1989 and 2001, Santo was appointed as Minister for Training and Industrial Relations.  During this time, he restructured the State’s workers’ compensation system and the industrial relations system and also directed significant changes to the regulation of workplace safety and retail trading hours.

He also oversaw the training sector, both in the operation of the government controlled TAFE (Technical and Further Education) institutes, and the private training sector.

Following his time in the State Parliament, Santo was appointed as Senator for Queensland in 2002, representing the State in the Federal upper house.  In January 2006, Santo was appointed as the Howard Government’s Minister for Ageing.

In this prominent Ministerial role, Santo oversaw the redesign of aged care in Australia, including the introduction of a long-term funding package, reform of financial instruments, and the implementation of world-leading measures to protect the elderly.

Both State and Federal Ministerial roles also required direction of large departments, including oversight of policy, finance, management and implementation of government programs.

Through his work as a local Member of Parliament, Senator, Shadow Minister, Minister and a senior member of the Liberal Party’s administrative wing, Santo demonstrated undisputed and effective organisational skills.

These skills were applied to the organisation of numerous fundraising functions and events, conventions, campaigns and of course, much legislative and parliamentary achievement.

Together with Simon White, Santo is part of a very capable and strategic team which will assist ACC clients organise successful, enjoyable and profitable events.
